Tenby is a harbour town and resort in southwest Wales. Tenby Wales is the most beautiful town in Pembrokeshire that I have been to. Last year, I spent 4 days and 3 nights in this amazing town. I am hoping that this blog post will give you ideas on How to Spend a long weekend in Wales.
Accommodation
We stayed in an Island View Cabin we found from Air BnB. The hosts were very lovely, Annette and Bob. They helped me surprise Zak with a birthday cake and banners!
This Cabin with its treetop balcony is located in the owner’s secluded back garden, a 10 to 15-minute walk from Tenby’s picturesque harbour and beaches. There is outdoor furniture on the tree-top deck with a hammock, rocking chair & parasol with sea views from both decks.
The cabin is also equipped with an oven & grill and mini fridge. Everything that you need to cook your meal if you want to spend less on eating out and takeaway.

Tenby Wales Itinerary
Day 1 – How to Spend a long weekend in Wales
Check in the B&B
It will take about 4 to 5 hrs depending on traffic from our house to Tenby Wales. We left early in the morning so we have enough time in the afternoon to settle down and familiarized ourselves with the area. We checked in on our accommodation by around 13:00. After settling and celebrating Zak’s birthday, we went down to Tenby Harbour to check out the restaurants in the town centre.
Explore Tenby Harbour & Town
The Tenby Harbour is only a 10 to 15-minute walk from where we were staying. The public footpath looks so beautiful.
When you get to the town, you will be surprised by how beautiful and colourful Tenby Harbour is. The houses looks so happy and bright. I loved walking around Tenby town, I enjoyed looking at the different coloured houses.
Tenby Museum & Castle Hill
The way to Castle Hill and Museum is steep however is still accessible by wheelchairs. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:am to 5pm. The admission fee is £5.50, children is free when accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed inside the museum.

Tenby Town & Brewery
Tenby town has lots of good restaurants and shops. If you are not planning on cooking any meals during your stay in Tenby, I would suggest that you book your table in your favourite restaurants. There are plenty to choose from however, Tenby is a very famous place and touristy, especially in summer. Even in October, we have struggled to book a table for 2. In the town, you will also find the Tenby Brewery, which offers a lot of different beverage choices. There are also plenty of cafe shops that offer a great view of the sea.
Dinner at Florentino’s
We ended day one satisfied and full! We ate at the Florentino’s, I ordered a half lobster pasta which was lush and Zak had a massive steak.
Day 2 – How to Spend a long weekend in Wales
Caldey Island
Caldey Island is a small island located less than a mile off the coast of Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is one of Britain’s holy islands, with a recorded history dating back more than 1,500 years.
Boat schedules are weather dependent, there is also no sail on any Sundays. You can stay in the island for as long as you want just don’t forget to catch the last boat. It may take 4 to 6 hrs to explore the whole island. Boats run to and from the island every 15 minutes from 9.30 am until 5.00 pm Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays from mid-May until mid-September. Limited sails in April and October. To check the sailing schedule call their information phone line at 01834 844453 on the day you want to go to the island.

St. Catherine Island & Fort
St Catherine’s Island is a small tidal island connected to Tenby in Pembrokeshire, Wales, by Castle Beach at low tide. The island, informally known as St Catherine’s Rock, is home to St Catherine’s Fort.
Hiking the Coastal Path
Exploring the abandoned St Catherine’s Fort does not take a lot of time. When we went to visit, some areas were not accessible. So after exploring the fort, we went for a short hike from St Catherine Island to The Giltar Point then we walked to KILN PARK back to Tenby.

Dinner at The Baytree
After the hike, we walked back to our cabin, rested for a bit and then freshen up for the dinner. We walked back to town and had our dinner at The Baytree. Zak & I ordered the mussels for the main and a bottle of wine.
Day 3 – How to Spend a long weekend in Wales
Epic Hike – Tenby to Saundersfoot
It was Zak’s birthday!! Zak opened his presents and one of the gifts was a book called “EPIC British Walks”. We had planned to have his birthday breakfast at The Qube, however, we had changed our plans for that day. We decide to do the Tenby to Saundersfoot hike trail that we had found in the book.
You can find the hiking trail in the All Trail app so it was easy to follow. The route was strenuous. We did not expect a lot of stairs.
Kayaking Around the Pembrokeshire Coastline
You can book your Kayaking adventure with Tenby Adventures, you can book online through their website. They also have an office in Tenby Habour, you will see it on your way to the Tenby Castle Beach. Tenby Adventures offers a lot of water activities, check out all the activities they offer on their website.
Zak’s Birthday Dinner Surprised!
I told Zak that I have already sorted his birthday dinner but he has no clue where! Before coming to Tenby I have researched for the best restaurants in Tenby, and there are so many! However, there was one that appeals to me the most, it was The Plantagenet House.
Plantagenet House is thought to be Tenby’s oldest house and was formerly known as Griffiths Temperance Hotel, The Praetoria and the Angel Inn. The place is the town centre but is Hidden away in Quay Hill leading down to the harbour and next to the National Trust’s Tudor Merchant’s House.
We both ordered the Pan fried King Scallop, followed by a Whole Lobster for myself and Welsh Fillet Steak for Zak. We also had a bottle of red wine. There was still a lot left from Zak’s birthday cake, so we did not bother to order any desserts. The restaurant, the ambience and the food were amazing. I was happy I saved the best restaurant for last. The dinner at The Plantagenet House would be the last dinner we had in Tenby Wales.
Day 4 – How to Spend a long weekend in Wales
Last minute shopping
We check out early and went to the town to have breakfast at The Qube. After eating breakfast we went shopping for new clothes. I needed a new hiking top and Zak wanted some new insulated jackets. We also went to a charity shop and got some clothes and shoes there too.
